Vicious Fishes Taproom & Biergarten in Apex is hiring a Full-Time Taproom Manager.

 

Vicious Fishes is a multi-location brewery based in the Triangle area of North Carolina. We embrace a taproom-centric model and will soon have three locations to serve our customers as well as a secondary brewery operation for barrel-resident fermentations. Our location in Apex hosts a café, taproom and an expansive outdoor biergarten that serves coffee in the morning, and beer, wine, and cider all day long.

 

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Taproom Manager to join our crew. As Taproom Manager, you would orient, motivate, schedule, supervise, and lead your staff from behind the bar, to assure everyone in the taproom can problem-solve, deliver great customer service, and promote the business. You would work with senior management to develop protocols for customer service, taproom promotion, quality control, cleaning, security, and safety, while serving as the primary point-of-contact related to taproom business. You lead by example and are committed to developing your team and training them to perform at the highest level. You're passionate about creating a warm and welcoming environment for our guests, and you are constantly finding new ways to improve on what we do. You're great at multitasking, and you love the challenge of performing in a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic environment.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Oversight and management of all taproom operations

  • Author, implement and maintain best practices and procedures for taproom operations and staff behaviors

  • Represent Vicious Fishes professionally and ensure the professional demeanor of your staff

  • Maintain a safe, clean and attractive environment for our guests and employees

  • Responsible for managing, interviewing, hiring and training Vicious Fishes taproom staff and effectively communicating and managing to your high expectations

  • Create and manage the staff schedule

  • Work behind the bar in the role of lead bartender

  • Directly manage other leadership roles to uphold your high standards during all hours of operation

  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep to the taproom and surrounding areas when possible, and orchestrate outside maintenance if required.

  • Update menus and orchestrate new beer releases in the taproom

  • Resolve customer problems and complaints via phone and email

  • Manage the taproom events calendar and communicate with the staff about upcoming events

  • Plan, execute, and be the onsite point of contact for taproom and biergarten events

  • Remotely troubleshoot taproom issues if needed

  • Work with your team to ensure an accurate inventory is maintained and order goods accordingly

  • Identify opportunities to grow sales and profitability

  • Have the ability to troubleshoot unexpected problems and handle high stress situations effectively and professionally

  • Reconcile end of day reports, balance deposit, cash drawer and petty cash.

  • Ensure opening and/or closing duties are being performed to the highest standard.

  • Source and select vendors, and manage those relationships.

Our ideal candidate looks something like this:

  • Knowledge of and passion for craft beer and the brewing industry

  • Cicerone Certified Beer Server or ability to achieve within 1 month of hire

  • Has a passion for coffee and familiar with coffee making skills and equipment

  • Available to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays

  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities

  • Highly organized and experienced in scheduling

  • Experienced in implementing and executing onsite programs

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

  • Minimum 2 year of experience in managing role in a taproom, restaurant, or bar

  • Collaborative spirit with a hands-on attitude and a strong work ethic

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Experience using Toast POS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

 

Physical demands:

  • Frequent lifting: 25-50 lbs.

  • Ability to move: 160 lbs half beer barrels

 

Working conditions:

  • The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a taproom / brewery environment in addition to bars, restaurants, event venues, etc.

 

The position generally involves continuous standing, frequent walking, moderate to heavy lifting, moderate to heavy carrying, frequent bending and reaching, climbing of ladders, and in-person communication.

Barista

Piranha Joe Cafe is hiring a Part-Time Weekend Barista.

Our location in Apex hosts our very own Piranha Joe cafe. It also serves as a taproom and an expansive outdoor biergarten that serves coffee in the morning, and beer, wine, and cider all day long.

 

The barista at Vicious Fishes Brewery - Piranha Joe Cafe is a team-oriented individual who has a passion for coffee and wants to share that passion with our patrons. Our baristas are the face of Piranha Joe Cafe, and represent who we are. They are responsible for creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere, and educating our customers on who we are, and what products we offer. This person should be an experienced barista, who preferably has experience pouring beer and wine, but must have a passion for and knowledge of coffee. This position will work directly with our Cafe Operations Manager.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Show up to every shift with a positive and welcoming attitude

  • Craft an extensive list of classic espresso beverages

  • Use and calibrate espresso grinders and espresso machine

  • Steam/foam milk when necessary for drink creation

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea

  • Keep pastries and breakfast items stocked

  • Sell draft, and package beer, wine, cider, and seltzer as well as merchandise to customers

  • Open and setup the cafe and taproom in the morning

  • Be knowledgeable about our products, and educate our customers about them

  • Fill crowlers for off-premise consumption

  • Move and change empty half barrel kegs

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the taproom and surrounding areas

  • Wash and sanitize glassware

  • Keep the bar and taproom stocked with anything that’s needed during a normal shift

  • Answer the phone and answer questions callers may have

  • Keep merchandise stocked and tidy

  • Operate Point of Sales system and count money

  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items

  • Be flexible and able to complete other job-related responsibilities as directed by the Cafe Ops Manager or the Taproom Manager

 

Job Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 1 year barista experience, preference given to additional experience in bartending

  • 18+ years old

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Motivation to learn about the craft brewing industry

  • Have the ability to lift up to 55lbs and move 160lbs kegs

  • Must have availability on weekend mornings, preferably Friday - Sunday

 

Physical demands:

  • Ability to move: 160 lbs half beer barrels
